We are looking for a cutting edge web developer (contract hourly, telecommuting ok) to assist us with some projects.
Required skills:
We are searching for an HTML / JavaScript pro who has experience:
1. creating cool, flashy, and sexy web pages that work across multiple browsers and platforms (IE, FF, Safari on XP, Vista, Mac OSX)
2. using JS toolkits such as jQuery, script.aculo.us, Prototype, Dojo, etc.
3. writing server-side code as well in PHP.
4. using social network APIs such as OpenSocial, twitter, Facebook, etc.
5. accurately estimating and budgeting time for a given project.
Bonus points are given to those with experience in:
1. Flash
2. Linux
3. SVN
4. Gimp and/or Photoshop
Please read this next part carefully:
To get a feeling of what we are looking for, please install this browser add-on on your IE or FF browser - http://facebooklivenotifier.ourtoolbar.com. Basically, its a Facebook Notifier -- it lets you know when you have new pokes, friend requests, messages, etc. It also lets you update your status, or share a page on facebook.
As a first project, we’d ask you to write a functionally similar app that operates against a different social network.
We value artistic license, so there are very few restrictions on how we’d like to see you accomplish this project:
- There is a client-side API which assists in programmatically controlling the toolbar available here: http://www.conduit.com/Developers/overview.aspx
Please let us know in your response if you have any experience with the Conduit.com API, or similar APIs.
- These apps must functionally operate like the Facebook Live Notifier example, providing the same utility.
Have you ever written anything similar?
- These apps must be wrapped within an “accordion” control, as toolbar real estate is valuable, we want the user to be able to shrink them on demand.
Do you have experience with accordion controls?
- They must work on IE 6-8, FF 2-3.5 on W2K, Vista, XP, and W2K
- They must work on FF 2-3.5 and Safari 2-4 on Mac OS 10.4-10.5
Have you ever worked on a project with such browser/platform requirements?
- You can use whatever technologies will get the job done
- You can use client-side, server-side, or a combination of the both
- You can use whatever combinations of APIs will get the job done. For example: Sonico is exposed via OpenSocial and via a native Sonico API. You are welcome to use one, the other, or both.
How would you do it?
Please visit http://www.conduit.com/, click the “Get Started Now” link at the top, and spend a few minutes getting familiar with the platform. Those who have created a demo toolbar and are familiar with the conduit.com technology will be considered ahead of those who haven’t.
Please submit your resume, along with the answers to the above questions, and examples/URLs/screenshots of all work you’ve done in the past that you think would make you the best candidate for this opportunity. As our resources are limited, we kindly ask you to contact us only after reviewing the information in this job posting, otherwise we won’t be able to consider your application (please accept our apologies for that in advance).

CustomInsight, a leading provider of online surveys and web-based HR assessments, is seeking a seasoned software/web developer with at least 5 years’ experience developing and maintaining complex online, database-driven software applications.
This is primarily a telecommute position, but you must be available to meet occasionally in San Mateo when needed. Initial training and orientation will take place in San Mateo. You must be based in the SF Bay Area.
The position offers flexibility in terms of work location and schedule, but it also demands the ability to work independently and stay focused. If you are a highly extroverted person, then working from home in relative isolation is probably not for you.
You must be prepared to respond to urgent projects, client needs, and technical issues with a “whatever it takes” attitude.
Programming Skills: ASP, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, RTF
IT Skills: Windows Server Administration, MS SQL Server Administration
Other Technical Skills:
- Basic Photoshop proficiency
- Understanding of basic statistics and statistical concepts (e.g. mean, standard deviation, correlation). Additional statistical knowledge and experience is a plus.
- Experience composing documents in RTF (Rich Text Format) is a huge plus.
Other: - Attention to design detail – if a mismatched font or a pixel out of place bothers you, good!
- Attention to numeric detail – we are in the business of providing data. Everything that clients receive absolutely must be 100% accurate the first time, every time.
- Independent – able to work on your own with minimal direct supervision.
- Creative and resourceful problem solving – able to find elegant solutions to problems; able to troubleshoot issues and implement fixes.
- Experience with online surveys, especially HR-related surveys (360 degree feedback, employee satisfaction, etc.) is a plus.
- Fluent English speaker with solid writing skills. Other language fluency is a plus.
What will you be doing?
For starters, you will be learning everything there is to know about how the existing applications work. This mostly includes understanding the code and the overall architecture of the application and the database. It also includes understanding the server architecture and infrastructure. Once you have mastered these things, you will be: - Maintaining the application – fixing bugs, implementing minor customizations for clients, etc.
- Maintaining server hardware and software – Microsoft Windows Server administration, architecture, security, basic networking, database maintenance, etc.
- Developing new functionality – adding new functionality to the existing applications based on client requests and a wish list of new features.
- Larger projects will include more extensive new features as well as creating new applications that compliment and work with our existing applications.
Willing to consider part-time or full-time.
Please reply to this posting with resume and cover letter.

We’re looking for somebody to design and build a single stand alone .EXE that will work on an x64 Windows Server 2008 platform that can be called by a VB script and will run a second VB script of our choosing. This 2nd script could change with time, so we might need to change its name and location several times, but could still be called by your EXE.
The .EXE must be executed by the end user by pushing a button (or hyperlink within a small window) that you design with a very small footprint on the host OS desktop. This window needs to always be on top of all other windows including hyper-v and VMware running on the host OS. This window could be moved by the end user but does not require any navigation buttons (scroll bars, maximize/minimize/close buttons.)
It would also need to have a very small memory foot print and leave no memory footprint behind since it could be ran by the end user hundreds of times during each windows session.
Are you interested in this? If not, do you know somebody who could be?

I am looking for a unique blend of designer, business analyst and programmer. Specific application language skills are less important than the ability to see the whole picture and envision a solution. Much of the work will be visionary and configuration vs. programming. If you are a "heads-down" left-brain programmer type please do not waste our mutual time by applying. I need people who can work alone, without a requirements document, little-to-no direction and can DELIVER. You will be working with new technologies and searching for new solutions to address challenges constantly.
Projects will be fresh, varied and timelines to production measured in days/weeks vs. months. Requires good business sense, process optimization insight and the ability to quickly extract the core thread through interview/observation with all levels and personality types. Must be "take-charge", comfortable interacting with clients, self-starter and have excellent English skills.
YOU MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH AND ABLE TO TRAVEL. Home weekends, mostly domestic, work from home the rest of the time. Travel in the neighborhood of 75%. Prefer Atlanta area candidates. Must be able to start in 1 week. Solid company, 20 years in business, 24,000 employees worldwide.
Required: HTML, JavaScript, SQL
Plusses: ColdFusion, C (any flavor), Windows Scripting, JAVA

Sociometrics Corporation, a social and behavioral research and development company in Los Altos, is seeking an iPhone application developer. The developer will create a simple application that lists a series of interesting facts about adolescent sexual health (all content will be provided), including creating an engaging interface and a search function. The ideal developer will have: developed at least one iPhone app (student projects count!), experience with the iPhone SDK, Cocoa, and Objective-C, strong knowledge of object-oriented programming and good written and verbal communication skills. I have a short-term project that requires an experienced Flex/Flash developer to put together a web-based authoring environment that allows end users to create online presentations by dragging and dropping text and image objects onto a canvas, assigning properties to these objects, and allowing them to be run as a full screen presentation (either in a web browser or within an AIR application).
If you have the skills necessary to create the above infrastructure, and your rates are reasonable (in today's economy, cost is a major issue for us), then please drop us a line and send us links to sample work you've put together in Flex/Flash. Because cost is a primary concern, we have no problem having developers from around the world bid on this project. Please remember to include your hourly rate in the response. We anticipate that the duration of this project will be 2-3 months.
Thank you

Mapping Main Street (http://mappingmainstreet.org) is a collaborative documentary media project that creates a new map of the country through stories, photos and videos recorded on actual Main Streets. We’re also commissioning musicians such as Ian Svenonius, Calvin Johnson, High Places and Jason Cady to create songs out of field recordings gathered on different Main Street. Plus, we’re making a custom street sign that will travel from street to street, serving as a mobile art installation and recording unit, enabling people to share stories via cell phones. In August, four radio stories will air nationally on NPR’s Weekend Edition.
The project is being produced by Peabody-award winning public radio producers, a Harvard economist and a co-creator of Yellow Arrow (http://yellowarrow.net). Now, we're looking for an awesome Flash developer to join our team part-time for the next month to help produce a few of the interactive components.
* Project Details *
Last month, we launched our beta website: http://mappingmainstreet.org. While we're quite happy with this site and have gotten great feedback, from the beginning we've envisioned a more ambitious version that moves away from a Google Maps look and feel. We're aiming to develop an innovative interface that highlights geographical, as well as non-geographical, narrative interrelationships between different Main Streets. We've developed detailed wireframes and Illustrator comps for this new version. And we have also taken care of most of the necessary backend programming (i.e. relational MySQL database + PHP mediating layer).
In particular, we are looking for help in developing the media player and route navigator. (You can excerpts from our wireframes of these two components here: http://mappingmainstreet.org/development/). To make the programming as smooth as possible, we will provide you with a detailed specification that includes documentation of our custom API, all necessary functionality, wireframes with notes, and all graphic design elements.
Our timeline is relatively tight. We would love to start working together ASAP. The final launch date is August 14th. We are offering $1000 in compensation.
If you are interested, please send a resume and work samples to jshapins@gmail.com. If you are based in New York, that will make things easier. But if you are elsewhere, we could also make that work.
