Calendar Editor

South Bay Accent, a 31-year-old regional lifestyle magazine, seeks part-time, freelance Calendar Editor. The job is a contract position and editor works from his/her home. South Bay Accent is published six times a year, so each Calendar covers a two-month period of upcoming South Bay happenings.

Responsibilities: The Calendar Editor currently is responsible for two sections of the magazine. The Calendar, which includes short, lively write-ups of approximately 150 future events in a variety of categories, and Scene, a two-page feature spread which highlights six major events complete with photos from each. Items follow a set format and are in a variety of categories highlighting South Bay happenings including theater, music and dance, lectures, kids stuff and comedy. In addition, the editor is responsible for obtaining and uploading high-resolution publicity photos of approximately 25-30 events each issue. Twice a year (June/July and Dec/Jan), the editor writes an additional feature, which highlights must-see summer and winter events. Compensation begins at $350 per issue (with extra for expanded features).

Experience and Skills: We seek candidates with strong, demonstrated writing skills and attention to detail. Accuracy is important, as is ability to meet deadlines and to work independently. Familiarity with the South Bay arts and entertainment scene is a plus, but not required.

Contact: Candidates should email resume, writing samples and short cover letter. Potential candidates will be required to take short writing test.
