Auction Assistant for Non-Profit Arts Preschool (Queen Anne)

Sweet Pea Cottage Preschool of the Arts creates a garden of possibilities for children ages 2 1/2 to 6.
We are looking for an Auction Assistant to help plan and execute our largest annual fundraiser, a dinner and auction for approximately 200 guests. The event is scheduled for March 6th, 2010. This position is responsible for assisting with all aspects, including, but not limited to: procurement, sponsorship, data entry, committee recruitment and meetings, preparing night of activities, display of auction items, catalog and all marketing materials, coordination with auctioneer, venue, caterer, acting as cashier the night of the event, and post-auction reconciliation, thank yous, etc. This position works approximately 285 hours over the course of 7 months (Sept.-March). The break down is as follows (with some give and take):
September: 15 hours
October: 20 hours
November: 20 hours
December: 20 hours
January: 40 hours
February: 90 hours
March: 80 hours
This is a contract position with a pay rate of $6000, paid in installments and based on deliverables. Person hired must be available to work in the Sweet Pea office at least once a week up to the week prior to, and following, the auction, both of which will require considerably more in-office time. Most other hours can be done outside of the office, and at flexible times (evenings, weekends, etc.).
Job Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree plus 2-3 years of successful fundraising experience with an emphasis on special events. At least one of these events must have been an auction.
Experience working effectively with volunteer teams.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, as well as auction software (Auction! preferred).
Able to take on leadership role with volunteers.
Positive, fun attitude.
Able to set priorities and accomplish goals independently.
Extremely well organized and able to implement and follow up on an effective event plan.
Strong connections with community businesses preferred.
Experience establishing sponsorships.
Some ability to trouble-shoot technology issues- computers, printers, DVD players, powerpoint projectors, etc.
Ability to pass both Washinton State Criminal Background Check and Child Protective Services.
